Egg Tempera Painting Workshop with Michelle Teear

Join experienced artist and educator Michelle Teear to explore a new medium. Egg tempera is a beautiful translucent viscous paint that holds exciting potential for contemporary painters. It is the original board painting medium and pre-dates oil paint. Tempera’s unique qualities sit between watercolour, acrylic and oil paint. Learn how to make this safe and healthy archival paint. You’ll be guided on how to apply tempera in layered translucent to opaque painting and explore its potential for texture and fine detailed marks. Suitable for beginner to experienced painters.

You will learn:

·     How to make egg tempera paint, including a variety of vehicles

·      How to choose and prepare a substrate for painting

·      Special techniques for working in egg tempera

·      Paint supplies and one plywood board provided, a selection of brushes

Students to bring:

·      Additional brushes

·      Apron or old clothes

·      Small jars for left over paint

·      Additional painting boards or canvas if you would like the option to make multiple works

Please note : due to allergies, please refrain from wearing perfume or cologne, deodorant is ok. Do not bring solvents for clean up, safe soaps provided.

Time : 10-2 pm

There will be a morning tea break with a range of local cafes nearby to choose from.

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER:

Michelle Teear is a painter working in egg tempera. Her work moves between the landscape and abstract emotional spaces embedded in exploring identity.

Michelle’s work has been a finalist in numerous prizes including the Evelyn Chapman award, Mosman, Paddington, Gosford and the Newcastle Club Foundation Prize. She has completed residencies at Mornington and Bundanon. She is an experienced art educator, and has provided workshops for UNSW and MAC Yapang. She is a peer for Museums & Galleries NSW & Bundanon. Michelle is represented by Straitjacket.
