English Paper Piecing Workshop

Join Lorena for two days of playful precision in Dungog!

On Friday we’ll dive into the art of fussy cutting – discovering repeating motifs in fabric and unlocking the hidden magic of the humble hexagon using mirrors and other tricks of the trade.

Saturday opens up a world of possibilities with a variety of EPP patterns to explore:
▪️ Honeycomb Studs – elongated hexagons that shine in a cushion project or grow into a quilt top, perfect for using up scraps.
▪️ Stars – diamonds that tessellate into stunning starry designs, from a set of drink coasters to something much bigger.
▪️ Mini Opals – learn curved English Paper Piecing techniques while creating a striking, gem-like block.

The workshop fee includes a basic kit to get you started. Additional patterns and templates will be available to purchase on the day.

Morning and afternoon tea are provided. Please advise of any dietary concerns!

What to bring:

Location: 211 Dowling Street, Dungog NSW

About Your Instructor:

Lorena Uriarte is an award-winning, modern maker who values the pragmatic nature and enduring beauty of bed quilts.

She mostly creates larger pieces with the intention of them being used daily to bring warmth and joy to a space. Sometimes her quilts turn into coats due to storage constraints.

Her work sits at the traditional end of the modern aesthetic, sliding up and down that scale depending on the audience. Her quilts have been exhibited in Australia and internationally.

Lorena loves to use hand and machine techniques with a bold use of colour, in both commercial prints and plain fabrics. She aims to create engaging quilts with a lot of movement.

Lorena is passionate about teaching patchwork and encourages others to live a fulfilled and creative life to cope with the stresses of modern life. She has taught all around Australia as well as overseas in Canada, USA, New Zealand, England and Scotland.

Lorena was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina before moving to Sydney, Australia
