Learn the Century Old Japanese artform of ceramic mending!

Kintsugi is a century-old Japanese art form where broken ceramic objects are joined back together using lacquer and gold dust based on the philosophy of Wabi Sabi finding beauty in imperfection.

The process transforms much loved, worn items into a beautifully crafted, new piece of art. It is a chance to live a more sustainable way and to rescue objects which would otherwise be discarded.

In this 4 hours step by step hands-on workshop, you will learn the fundamental skill of Art Kintsugi method, following the principal of ancient Kintsugi utilising more accessible alternative materials (such as resin and gold metal) which enable us to complete the process within the class and safely.

At the end of the class, you will take home a piece of your own Kintsugi art and will be able to continue your practise to repair your own item at home.

We will talk about the history of Kintsugi and culture and philosophy behind as well as ancient materials and tools.

As this is a small group workshop, booking is essential.

Class is suitable over 18 years old.

Not suitable for pregnant person

Some of the materials we use are synthetic, therefore the items can not be used as dinnerware with food directly on them.

Participants will learn the introductory technique of Art Kintsugi ceramic mending following 7 essential Kintsugi steps using safer and accessible materials (epoxy, lacquer and gold metal powder as an alternative to Urushi and 24K gold) and bring home a piece of own Kintsugi art.

The workshop is designed for the participants to be able to start practicing and own project using the skill learnt in the class.

A list of materials and tools we use in the workshop will be provided. Art Kintsugi starter kit can be prepared and purchased upon request.

• Please wear comfortable clothes that can get a little dusty.
• Spectacles if you use them for reading and detail work.
• All tools and materials we use in the class will be provided.
• A small ceramic piece suitable for the workshop per person will be prepared by YYoko. In this class, we cannot repair own pieces brought into the group workshop unfortunately.
