Discover the potential of jeans!
Along with T-shirts, jeans are one of the most discarded items of clothing in Australia. Op shops are swamped with them and they contribute significantly to our textile waste stream.
The detailed construction of a humble pair of jeans offers infinite upcycling possibilities.
In this workshop, we will:
- Explore the potential of upcycling projects and techniques with jeans – through deconstruction and reuse of all the elements
- Discuss and demonstrate use of elements (fabric, pockets, seams, hems, waistbands, flies, belt loops) to create texture, colour and pattern in various projects including clothing, bags, homewares and accessories
- create a seams weaving coaster
- make a jeans tool/utility belt
Have fun with facilitators Cathy Stuart and Jan Williams from Upcycle Newcastle. Coffee and cake provided!
