Jacqui Fink Extreme Knitting Needles
K1S1 Industrial Knitting Needles have been designed especially to manage the scale of the K1S1 extreme knitting yarn and unspun wool.
Made from pvc plumber's pipe and hand turned timber tops and ends, K1S1 needles help support the weight of the yarn and unspun wool.
The length of the needle also helps to avoid the creation of any pressure points on the unspun wool during the knitting process. Unspun wool is fragile and can easily break when tension is applied.
Please note that all pvc pipe comes with heavily printed information (only understood by plumbers) running along its full length. I have removed as much of this printing as I could but some proved to be very stubborn. Most needles still have traces of ink on them. This does not constitute a defect but is rather a remnant of the industrial pedigree of the pipe.
Before purchasing K1S1 needles, please read my Hot Tips and the Disclaimer on the K1S1 page. Knitting on such a large scale is not for the faint hearted so you need to be sure you are up for the physical challenge.
The needles are sold as a set. There are two needles per set.

CARE
The hand turned wooden tip and ends have been polished with a small amount of bees wax to help make the timber water resistant. If you happen to spill water on the timber, wipe the water off as soon as possible to avoid the timber from being water marked.
You may need to reapply a small amount of bees wax from time to time.
Please store and rest the needles carefully as the wood can become scratched or chipped if the needle is knocked over or comes into contact with a hard or rough surface. I've done this a million times with my own sets because I am as klutzy as they come. To me, the scratches are a badge of honour and I leave them. If they bother you though, grab yourself a piece of fine sanding paper and gently sand the affected area until smooth. Then apply a small amount of bees wax with a clean cloth to protect the wood. I highly encourage you not to be too precious about it though. While you don't want anything on the needle to "catch" the wool while knitting (and to this end they the wood needs to be smooth), it is pretty hard not to knock over your K1S1 needles because they are just so large. Remember, these are tool of industry and not show ponies by any means. Embrace your inner adventurer, let go of any propensity for perfection and just have fun.
The pvc pipe can be wiped down with a damp cloth if cleaning is required.
