“Fibre Preparation” with Vicki Cornish @bonsai_woman.
This workshop with Fibre Artist Vicki Cornish gives you the opportunity to learn about the selection and preparation of natural fibres.
This workshop is for people who would like to learn how to prepare a
raw fleece for spinning. Topics covered will include:
• Selecting a fleece
• Different types of fibres and the terminology used
• Scouring (washing) a fleece
• How different fibre preparations will affect your yarn
• How to flick card locks
• Using hand cards to make rolags
• Using hand combs to make top
Each participant will receive an Ashford Flick carder (RRP $30) to keep, samples of different preparations, samples of fleeces and workshop notes. On the day we will be working with a beautiful fleece from Cloverleaf Corriedale Stud in Victoria
If anyone has a fibre preparation tool at home that they are not sure how to use, they are welcome to bring it along. Everyone will take home samples of roags and tops for reference.
If you are also interested in learning how to spin, Vicki is available for private lessons and holds regular workshops and demonstrations at Hive and Gobbler.
