Bush eco-dyeing with gum leaves

Boiling up gum leaf tea [Mother Brew], adding cloth to get colour- seeing the change when iron is added.

Bundling with leaves inside for a print.

It is a slow day watching the pot boil,

There will be some offcuts already coloured, and we can take the opportunity to stitch them into pot holders as we wait.

Fat Quarter Khadi cotton fabric [Note Khadi is hand spun, hand woven clot- the ultimate slow cloth]

15 cm wide strip of khadi

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER:  Fiona Wright has lived and worked in India for the last 12 years developing "The Stitching Project"- a workshop focused on creating as much work for as many hands as possible. That is, training women to be able to work in the workshop or work from home. Recently returned to Australia she still runs the workshop through the magic of Zoom!

Time: 5hrs (10am-3pm)
Location: Rear of 211 Dowling Street, Dungog NSW
Parking: Dowling St or nearby side streets

Please note that this workshop will be run outside so you can enjoy our beautiful outdoor space. If it is too hot, windy or wet, we will be indoors.

BRING: Your own water bottle, rubber gloves and packed lunch (or order from one of the nearby cafes on the day).  Please also bring a glass jar to take some Mother Brew home [don’t know if it scientifically makes a difference to your next boil up but it does contain a lot of encouragement and connection to the process], and up to a metre of fabric or a tshirt to throw into the pot- well washed, natural cloth.
